Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson doesn't know whether there'll be redemption in the air around Domain Stadium but he's expecting a fierce contest in Friday's grand final rematch with West Coast.

The Hawks head back to Perth for the first time since last season's finals series, when they lost to West Coast but then beat Fremantle to set up their grand final victory over the Eagles.

Forward Cyril Rioli said he expected the Eagles to be out for revenge in the round 22 match but Clarkson said "whether it's got anything to do with the past or not, West Coast on their home deck on a Friday night in front of 40,000 screaming fans is a hard ask".
